The new Customs & Border Protection (CBP) agency's Importer Security Filing (ISF) regulation is commonly referred to as the 10+2 initiative. It has this designation because of the requirement for importers and vessel-operating carriers to provide trade data of 10 elements and 2 elements respectively.Following are some points to be considered:
* Data must be filed for product moving through the USA for export and any freight that remains on a vessel.
* The ISF importer has the responsibility for ensuring all 10 date elements are filed correctly.
* Filings must be submitted 24 hours prior to the shipment's arrival at a US port.
* ISF filings must be submitted through the AMS(Automated Manifest System) or the ABI (Automated Broker Interface).
* Fines for failure to meet these ISF requirements have been reduced from the value of the shipment to $5,000 per shipment.
